A Punk Heritage – Dr Martens x Raf Simons

Footwear phenomenon – Dr Martens have collaborated with Belgian menswear designer – Raf Simons to bring you an update of the classic 1460s. Celebrating 60 years of producing iconic shoes, Docs will be releasing limited editions each month, joining forces with leading brands and designers.

Launching his menswear label in 1995, furniture turned fashion designer – Raf Simons brings a Punk and New Wave attitude to the preppy schoolboy clichĂ©. Following his successful Adidas collab last year, we only have high expectations from the former Christian Dior creative director.

This collection features the 1460 boot in a smooth leather finish, embossed with their silver logo and accessorised with nickel o-ring detailing. Returning to Dr Martens workwear roots, the hardware elements in the design introduces those industrial influences with a bondage aesthetic.

With youth culture being at the foundation of both brands’ ethos, this collab has undeniably been made with youth in mind. Dr Martens have always been a fundamental part of subcultures’ regalia, synonymous with adolescence and pre-adult rebellion. This is shown through Simons‘ encouragement to personalise the shoe “by adding charms“; customisation is what punks did best.

To fit with the design concept, style with clean-cut black trackies and a button-up overshirt for an industrial look. Or stay true to Simons, and pair with tailored suit trousers and a sharp boxy blazer.

This collaboration is available from 22nd February on Dr Marten’s official website, Sevenstore, Modes and HBX.
