A quick Google search of Lian Cara reveals three things. She is a fashion designer based in Llandovery, Wales. Her Twitter handle is @liancaradesigns. And, as reported by the red tab local newspaper- Wales Online, Cara’s designs have been featured in three editions of British Vogue.
23-year-old Lian ‘Cara’ Poulson is a graduate and artist at Coleg Sir Gar’s Carmarthen School of Art. As a designer, Lian deftly cuts and needles fabrics into complex architectonic shapes. By creating pattern through the construction of the garment, rather than using traditional methods such as print, Cara’s pieces are provocative and atavistic. Her ‘Natural Reflection‘ collection was showcased in British Vogue for three consecutive issues (January – March ’18), and was inspired by the arches and shapes found in both Welsh natural landscapes and the garments themselves.
As a fashion resident of Carmarthen, she is currently designing her next prêt-á-porter collection. She’s hoping to entwine it with laser cutting to create more intricate details and cut-outs while retaining the fluidity of fabric that caught the attention of Vogue editors and buyers alike in her graduate collection.
