International skate brand Vans have partnered up with iconic alternative hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest to pay tribute to their wide-spread influence within 90s culture. The quirky modern take on the authentic footwear falls in with the current vintage streetwear hype. Aimed towards youth, you can note shades of black and white as well as outlandish tribal prints. The pair that particularly stood out for me was The Anthology cover art Old skool ones. It has the enthralling album cover in an animal print style paired with laces are coated in typography of the album’s lyrics.
With the wacky designs and street art feel to them, I can envision the mass of arsty urban kids sporting these around town. This collection gives a real nostalgic edge to your everyday pair of Vans, really highlighting the golden age of music still very much prevalent in today’s culture.
Available in the Authentic, Sk8-hi, Old skool, Era, Ultrarange and Slide on styles, you can find this limited collection currently on Vans official site and in selected stores.
