Ragged CULT Introducing ~ whoissmink

I had the chance to interview up and coming, multi-genre artists, whoissmink. Read below to see what he had to say.

Name: Whoissmink

City: North Carolina

Occupation: Recording Artist

Tell us a bit about yourself?

“I’ve loved music since I was little, I’m just obsessed with all avenues of it. Theory, Engineering, Songwriting. Lately I’m focused on curating projects and undersaturation. I obsess over energy. I don’t apply energy towards things I don’t like. I focus everything towards what matters.”

When and how did you start making music?

“I started making music when I was about fifteen. It really wasn’t good at all. I stuck with music though. I think I started pushing to get better when I was about 17. I went through so many demos just to create a sound and really figure out where I belonged. It took a long time to figure myself out and a long time to get the right people around me.”

What inspired the name whoissmink?

“I felt like the name could be applied to all types of music. Like usually when you hear an artist name, people expect a certain type of music from them. I didn’t want to be limited in what people expected from me. So it was like an anonymous avenue while still putting a face to the music.”

What genre would you say your music is?

“I make a lot. I don’t prefer saying no-genre, I think I make several genres. I wanted to put myself in a position where I could be useful in any situation. Oh we’re in the studio with _____? Okay, too easy I already know what way to approach my songwriting. My songs have a signature to them, that’s how I know when it’s good. However if I had to specify, I make rap and I make indie.”

Tell us about your latest soundcloud release ‘Fast,’ whats it about?

“‘Fast’ is about pretty girls; it is self produced and just has a  pop sound to it. I wanted it to be the first new release from what I’m currently working on. Hopefully everyone likes it a lot! There will be more singles in the coming weeks.”

Who are your biggest influences?

“My biggest influences at the moment are: Levi Carter, Yung Pinch, Ace Henderson, Andy Warhol,Kandinsky, Gosha and Travis Barker.

If you could collab with anyone, who would it be?

“There aren’t many people I can think of at the moment. ”

What’s next for you?

“As for what’s next, I can’t say much but everyone can expect more single releases.”
