Ragged CULT Introducing ~ Hottub Johny

I am very reticent about the whole Soundlcoud rapper phenomenon mainly because a lot of people think they can just make music when in reality a lot of their music is either not up to standard or they’re rapping about offensive or derogatory things. However, this is not the case with rapper and producer Hottub Johny. We managed to get an exclusive interview with him, check out what he had to say.

 Name: Hottub Johny

Age: 20

City: Fort Myers, FL

Who is Hottub Johny?

“I am a typical 20 year old struggling college student with hopes of having a non stressful life one day. I take life one day at a time spending it doing what I want, when I can, with whoever I wish. Some things I love are Sushi, The NHL, 420 Vape carts, and my Mother.”

How did you start making music? Have you always been musical?

“I started by playing drums in a band with my brothers when I was about five or six. Ever since then I’ve had a drive for music and always wanted to work on something. After being exposed to so many genres I was able to finally discover on what I wanted to make.”

How did you come up with the name Hottub Johny?

“When I lived in New York very early in my life we had a hot tub on the deck, it was sick. But long story short, the air would be too cold I would never want to get out. My family then named me Hottub Johny and it was my email address for a while. I changed my artist name multiple times before landing on Hottub.”

What Genre would you say your music is?

“I would call it Alternative Soundcloud. I might drop an Indie Rock track or a Trap song; I mix it up all the time.”

Why do you make music?

“I make music because it’s something I’ve done my whole life. I haven’t been exposed to many people yet, but a lot of people believe in me. Music is my escape. I can connect my feelings of anger, sadness or joy, to a passionate instrumental made by myself or a friend. I’ve had producers tell me I gave them goosebumps. Feedback like that inspires me to continue to make music.”

You most recent release is Trashed, what’s the concept of that song?

Trashed is a super cool track; S/o to SyKo and Rangerlacave. That song is about caring for someone who doesn’t care about you back. It’s dedicated to that one person whose Snapchat or Instagram you lurk daily hahahaha. In the song it says ‘Wrote a song about her to upload it to soundcloud, then i smoked a blunt and took it down.’ I’ve deleted a lot of songs off my soundcloud in the past so I got the inspiration from that. I typically base my songs on a special someone.”

Who are your musical influences?

“I have so many from all different genres: Frank Sinatra, Blink 182, Fall out Boy, A Day To Remember, Mac Miller, Schoolboy Q, Wiz Khalifa and Lil Peep. All my main collaborators such as jcam, Rangerlacave, bbygoyard, and all the young underground kids supporting me.”

If you could collab with anyone who would it be?

“I want to collab with Clairo so badly!! I promise it would be so fire.”

What’s next for Hottub Johny?

“I’m just dropping songs everyday trying to get my name out there. But expect a big single release soon with a visual. Songs will also soon be available on Spotify, iTunes in the near future.”
