Yesterday was International Women’s Day and to celebrate this, Liberty’s London teamed up with photographer Mary McCartney to showcase nine amazing women representing today’s worlds of culture, fashion and commerce. This month in 1912 marks the suffragettes shattering Liberty’s windows shouting ‘Votes for Women’. So 105 years later they’ve decided to make their windows a celebration for women past, present and future.

Florence Welch 

Florence is a singer-songwriter, performer and perfect muse for fashion houses. She’s a huge fan of Liberty’s prints in particular Dancing Ladies and Grace which are from the Liberty Rocks Art Fabrics collection from 2011.

Anya Hindmarch CBE

Anya is a British designer and was the first designer to catapult accessories into the show schedule at LFW. Her love for British design and the arts has led to her involvement as a UK Trade Ambassador and Non- Executive Director of the BFC.

Stella Jean

Stella is an Italian womenswear fashion designer who uses inspiration from creole heritage. She is dedicated to using craftspeople in Africa, supports struggling countries by self sustaining local communities and focus’ on women’s empowerment. She’s also collaborated with the UN on countless projects, promoting the growth of ethical fashion and international development.

gal-dem

gal-dem are a magazine and creative collective supporting the work of women of colour and non binary people of colour. The collective was set up as a result of the lack of diversity in Britain’s top institutions; they’ve made their mark as a platform that offers thought provoking content. They have had several sell-out events including: audio visual exhibitions, a V&A takeover and live music events. In the coming months they will be hosting a series of events at Liberty’s.

Katharine Hamnett CBE

Katharine is a legendary designer and political activist, who has been trying to get other people in fashion to make changes. In the 80s she gained a massive following from her loaded slogans and the invitation to 10 Downing Street that she turned into a iconic protest opportunity. She’s a pioneer of ethically sourced fashion and held her SS18 collection launch at Liberty’s.

Loretta de Feo

Loretta is a young entrepreneur who turned her dissatisfaction of the beauty industry’s diversity into an innovative new product for afro and curly hair.  Her product Dizziak launches this month exclusively in Liberty’s beauty hall.

Elise Valmorbida

Elise is an award winning and critically acclaimed author and independent film maker. She was the first to propose a creative writing course at Central Saint Martins in 1997 and continues to teach there till this day. She is due to release her novel ‘The Madonna of the Mountains’ this month kicking off Faber & Faber’s collaboration with Liberty London Fabrics; this will also feature a bespoke Liberty designed cover.

Katie Emck OBE

Katie is the founding director of Fine Cell Work which is a charity that helps prison inmates find self worth and help them pave the way for crime free lives through needlework. She’s established a national network of volunteers to teach fine needlework in prisons across the UK. She pays inmates for their products which are sold in Liberty’s Haberdashery on 3. Katie has opened up a new creative route to rehabilitation via professional crafts training in prison.

Sylvie Chantecaille

Sylvie is the French founder of Chantecaille whose cruelty free luxury cosmetics are in Liberty’s beauty edit. Her brand encompasses an established philanthropy platform that supports conservation efforts across the world and past collections have shared proceeds with charitable causes close her her heart; these include the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and The Xerces Society.
