Ragged CULT Introducing: Jakub

I haven’t known the illusive jakub for that long but any friend of chelji’s is a friend of mine. From the beginning I could tell he has big aspirations, he’s always reaching for the stars. I caught up with jakub below see what he had to say.

Name: jakub

Age: 18

City: Manchester

Tell us a bit about yourself?

“I grew up always alone in my room messing around on the computer, guess you could say I am a gamer at heart, but also always had music in my life. From an early age my grandad taught me to play piano, accordion, trumpet, and just before I left for England he wanted to teach me to play the violin, but never got around to it. Now I mainly spend time writing, talking to people and just listening to music, with occasional gaming sessions when I need to relax.”

When & why did you start making music?

“Like I said before, music was always in my life, but I really started late last year, so you could say I’m still new to it. I started it as a way to escape, I’ve never been good at expressing my feelings; I’m the type of person you ask if he’s okay, and I always just say yeah. Recently I’ve been attempting to start exploring the way I feel and why I do. Music certainly helped me with that, could see it as a kind of diary where inner feelings come out.”

Who are your biggest musical influences?

“I don’t really know, I listen to a lot of music but one person I always consistently go back to is Lil uzi vert and xxxtentacion; there’s just something about both of them i relate to on a personal level. Uzi has his own style, does what he wants, wears what he wants, and is just really expressive, but while hes expressing the feelings, you can dance to it and forget all the bad;  it’s magical to me. With xxxtentacion, I guess it’s his character that draws me and the pain he puts in his music. The fact he does multiple genres too is something I look up to, he’s not bound by a certain label. In terms of his more sad music, I could sit there and listen to it for hours, just thinking about everything, and relax. I can’t miss out my best friend, Chelji, she’s a sister to me and how she works on her songs is a sight to see. Her ability in general amazes me and there’s times I think I seen it all, but she still surprises me, she pushes me to be great. Maybe not a musical influence as such, but everyone I talk to as well, everyone in LOVƐ Gang and people I talk to on every day basis. It’s pushing me to be the person I want to be, kind of like, be the change you want to see in the world.”

What genre would you say your music is?

“I don’t really know, I don’t like the idea of being genre bound. I labeled my first song as alt rnb, but I have so many different genres I want to try, for example the song I am working on now is more rock, I guess if anything, it would be alternative, that’s the best way I can describe it.”

You’ve just released your first song women, what inspired that song/what’s it about?

“My ex, she messed up a lot of stuff in my life, and it’s like a recovery song, but also a realisation, people are broken. In the hook I’m talking about never leaving her, not needing anyone else, but as it goes into the verse, it talks about what happened at the end of the relationship, where I caught her slipping, and rest of it is the recovery and looking for a new love, but realising everyone is broken and knocked down, but whatever happened in the past, we will own it together and take over the world.”

What made you decide to make it a short song?

“This is a technique I guess, xxxtentacion uses it a lot. If the song is of a shorter length, you can listen to it more, but mainly, it’s that little tease that will drive you wild wanting more, that’s the feelings I get when I listen to short songs, and its that hunger that hopefully keeps people coming back for more.”

If you could collab with anyone who would it be?

“There’s a lot I would want to do, but in terms of sound I’d love xxxtentacion obviously, since he’s my favourite artist and working with him has got to be interesting; I’d love to explore his creative process. I’d love to work with swae lee, just his vibe when he’s on a song makes you want to dance and just bounce around. Another one would be Kid Cudi, he was one of earliest people I found on my own, stumbling across him on internet, I think it would be a dream for anyone to work with him.”

What’s next for you?

“Whats next? More music, I got so much planned. I’ll carry on making music, probably a music video, 2 EP’s, a bunch of collabs, and more but I dont think its time to talk about that yet :).”
