I caught up with up and coming music creator Pezzhead to find out more about him.
Name: Joe Perry
City: Maidstone (in a small village next to it called Larkfield)
Tell us a bit about yourself?
“Making music takes up most of my time but I do love video games (old school and new); my favourites I’ve been playing recently are mass effect and fall out, I have a deep love sci-fi and the dystopia. I also love making/directing films and music videos. I also skate and bmx but I’m not amazing. I used to be quite an introverted and enclosed person, like I was one of the quietest people at school but I think people knew me for my music. I’m trying harder to open up nowadays though, that’s why I’m wanting to do interviews like this.”
How did you come up with the name Pezzhead?
“The name Pezz itself has been in my family for years being it’s an abbreviation of “perry” which is my second name. However I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t actually come up with the full name, it was my older brother Tommy, who’s always been a huge inspiration for me music-wise and in general. It used to be his xbox live gamer tag ‘pezzhead43.’ I always thought how the name just slipped off the tongue was so cool. So I adopted it as a name for my music. I didn’t ask him straight away cos I was worried he’d say no but In the end he didn’t mind, and now it’s just stuck :’)”
How long have you been doing music? Also how did you get into music?
“I’ve been making music for literally as long as I can remember. From like the age of 5 or 6 I was like making songs in my head; it took me a bit longer to work out how to write and structure a song, but i think I finished my first song on guitar when I was like 9. Playing guitar really got me into writing music as well. In year 4 I had acoustic guitar lessons and I had this awesome stoner teacher called Kai. I carried on lessons until year 6 and I got my first electric guitar when I was 9. I used to play it every day, writing my own songs and trying to work out how to play other peoples songs. My brother also really got me into music because no one in my family were musical except him, and even then he didn’t really play many instruments only a bit of bass. Professionally I got into music through my metal band “Raised By Raptors.”
What genre would you say your music is?
“I like to really mix up styles, I find it very hard just to stick to one genre. At the moment I’d say I’m alternative trap hip hop /alternative rock /emo. I honestly don’t really know tbh; I’ll just go with what ever people want to call me, labels don’t really bother me.”
Who are your biggest music inspirations?

Who are your biggest music inspirations?
“My biggest inspirations growing up were probably countless metal bands from classics like Iron Maiden, Metallica and Tool, to newer bands such as Periphery, Bring Me The Horizon and Architects. I’m also into my weird mathcore so like, the Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge and Fall of Troy. I Also had a phase of being heavily into U.K. hip hop and Tyler the creator when I was like 15/16. I love films which means I get influenced by any film I watch: I’ve been heavily influenced by movie soundtracks like Hans Zimmer Scores and Two Steps From Hell. So yeah I’m influenced by pretty much everything that enters my eyes/ears haha.”
When is the album/EP coming out?
“The debut is coming out the first half of this year, I don’t have a specific date yet but I should have one soon.”
What’s next for you Pezzhead?
“What’s next? I’m planning to play my first show at the Tunbridge Wells forum on the 6th of February as part of the stable show case, it’s my first time on stage on my own so I’m buzzing for it!”
